This was my birthday/mother's day gift to myself....thanks to my husband, my long arm quilting is now a reality! Who'd the thought that a machine of this nature and quilting frame would require so many parts! So of course we had to make room for it....I didn't want it upstairs so we pushed the dinning room table to the side (we don't even use it anymore) and parked the long arm in its place. I gave it a test drive with an old quilt top I had pieced when I first started quilting. So far no quilting problems. Of course I'm free motioning it for now. I'm researching the long arm ruler templates so I can quilt straight and curved lines when I don't want to do my free motion curly q's. I loaded her with Bottomline in the bobbin and So Fine #40 (a variegated polyester thread) in the top. The real question is what name did I giver her....I think Artie is what is speaking to me. Welcome to the family Artie!
So I finally did it....
I'm getting a longarm! Yes this from the person who swore in her mind that she would not spend such an enormous amount on a quilting machine. Well after using my Handiquilter frame and really feeling the limitations of the throat, I knew I had to upgrade! I read many reviews, blogs, and boards but to be honest what it came down to....economics. Getting an 18 inch machine and frame without spending a fortune. So I patronized Ace Sew Vac online website and liked what I saw. Of course after a couple of clicks and a phone call...my brand new longarm (of the law) machine is being shipped from Florida. So I'm getting the Artistic 18. She should be arriving in 7-10 days. I bought her in a bundle so she is being paired with a Gracie King Frame. I'm excited...its like a new baby is on its way! This time I don't even have a name for the machine...or a place to put it (it might boot out my formal dining room table--who needs to sit down and eat anymore)! I couldn't even tell you if this one is going to be a boy or a girl...but once it arrives, I'll b |
